What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu?
What is BJJ aka Brazilian Jiu Jitsu? The most proven realistic martial art system used in both sports grappling competition and self-defense situations.
BJJ philosophy is based on the notion that a smaller, weaker person can defend themseves against a bigger, stronger and heavier opponent. By combining both leverage and weight distribution we can take the fight to the ground, apply joint locks and chokeholds to defeat or restrain the opponent.
Sparring (commonly referred to as "rolling" within the BJJ community) and live drilling play a major role in training and the practitioners development. It is a great method for promoting physical fitness, building character, and a way of life for all ages and gender.

What to Expect
A typical Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu class is usually 90 minutes long and begins with a light warm up. A technique will be demonstrated and students are then paired up and given the opportunity to practice the techniques and positions while the instructor supervises.
Full Contact BJJ
Toward the end of the class, the students will ‘spar’ or wrestle with each other to utilize the techniques learned.
Class format may be modified depending on upcoming events such as tournaments or promotion tests. In such cases, more emphasis will be placed on specific areas of training such as takedowns, escaping positions, submissions, etc.
